Welcome to North Shore Parish Hoops, a recreational youth basketball league proudly serving  St Anthony of Padua East Northport, St Joseph’s Kings Park St Hugh’s Huntington Christ the King Commack and St Mathews Dixs Hills.  This document serves as our North Star —a guiding compass for players, coaches, referees, families, and supporters today and into the future. It defines who we are, what we believe, and how we hold ourselves accountable.  

What We Believe at North Shore Parish Hoops

• We believe that ALL kids have the potential to play, learn, improve, and have fun. Basketball is for everyone, and we are committed to making the game accessible, inclusive, and supportive for every player regardless of skill level or background.
• We believe in having fun and that enjoyment is the foundation of all we do.
• We believe that preparation builds confidence and readiness to learn and play.
• We believe perseverance helps kids grow through challenges.
• We believe in integrity—doing what is right on and off the court.

We do not play simply to win. Instead, we play to have fun, improve, be with friends, and celebrate the joy of the game.

How We Teach and Lead

• We teach the fundamentals of basketball and emphasize skill building through fun activities that are right-sized by age and ability.
• We teach kids to spread out, create space, and include teammates.
• We never build strategies that favor one player over others.
• We ensure every child tries something new and feels supported while doing it.
• We foster mentorship and leadership, encouraging older players and more experienced teammates to help others grow.
• Our referees, often teens learning themselves, are treated with patience, respect, and support.
• Coaches and adults model emotional maturity—not just basketball knowledge.

The North Shore Parish Hoops Experience

At the end of each session,and the end of the season, our players should walk away thinking:

“I like basketball.”
